Anything School Can Do You Can Do Better – Maire Mullarney

I really enjoyed this book.  I can’t remember how I came across it, I just remember seeing someone reference it somewhere online.

It’s an old book from the 80’s, but even older is that it refers to her life in the around the 50’s with her children growing up in rural Ireland and deciding to home educate.  I loved the simplicity and practical approach she seemed to take.  She also seemed to investigate options available and figured out how to apply them in her context. Her references to Montessori resonated with me.  She also led me on to the work of Marion Richardson.

It was nice to hear how her children grew up into adults and what they went on to do.

It’s also a really good reminder of how crazy the education systems has gotten these days.  I truly believe we need to simplify education!
